Surveillance and access control hardware is routinely installed, commissioned and then left untouched for years — default credentials, unpatched firmware, flat network placement. It is one of the most reliable ways into an enterprise network. We deploy this equipment on segmented VLANs, with credentials rotated and a firmware maintenance plan, because it is IT infrastructure whether or not IT commissioned it.
